AIA Nebraska Mentorship Program
AIA Nebraska is kicking off a fun and unique mentorship program that offers a new way to gain wisdom and make connections!
We all want a wide range of experience and to be well-rounded professionals, but that's not always possible to get exclusively from our workplace. So what is AIA Nebraska doing about it? We are challenging members to spare one hour a month for a three-month period to meet in a small group of architects ranging from EPs to CEOs. We envision groups of 4-6 people, varying in age and expertise, getting together during a happy hour at different offices/homes/etc. to exchange insight, ideas and passion! AIA Nebraska will provide topics to focus on each month to help get the ball rolling, but the beauty of these groups is conversation can be organic and catered to the specific needs of the group's individuals.
We are asking for willing participants to begin the program September 1st. Don't miss your opportunity to grow both professionally and personally by meeting others outside your office. Please respond with your place of employment and address as well as any topics you would like to see covered.

Isom joins Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects
Governor Pete
Ricketts appointed
Lenora Isom, AIA,
to a five-year term
as an architect
member of the
Nebraska Board
of Engineers
and Architects.
Isom is the
Building Official,
Zoning and Floodplain Administrator,
and Economic Development
Official for the City of Ashland.
"As a Building Official for a smaller
community, I felt I could bring a unique
perspective to the Board regarding
code enforcement, the plan review and
approval process, and collaboration
with regulatory angencies," Isom said.
Isom specializes in education and
government projects and launched her
own architectural practice in 2012. "I am grateful to have this opportunity
to give back to my profession, my peers,
and the State of Nebraska," Isom said.
She became a URS Certified Project
Manager in 2011 and has been a LEED
Accredited Professional for the US
Green Building Council since 2006.
Isom hopes to play an active role
in monitoring regulatory and
legislative changes to help keep
Nebraska citizens protected. "The industry is changing so rapidly. As
BIM technologies evolve and become
more accessible, the traditional roles
and relationships between architect,
engineer, and contractor are also
shifting. Our responsibility to protect
the health, safety, and welfare of the
public must be upheld," Isom said.
A native of Blair, Isom holds a Master
of Architecture from the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln. She brings over 17
years of architectural experience to the
Board, holds licenses in Nebraska and
Maryland, and currently serves on the
Omaha Public Library Board of Trustees.

Update: AIA Nebraska Accreditation | Repositioning
Accreditation: We are pleased to report AIA Nebraska has been awarded a three-year accreditation and local chapters a one-year accreditation in recognition of our commitment to excellence in providing service to members. The accreditation signifies that AIA Nebraska and AIA Omaha, AIA Lincoln and AIA Western NE provide quality service to members and meets or exceeds all core standards for components as set by AIA.
In conjunction with AIA National repositioning efforts, effective in 2016 AIA state and local chapters are required to meet certain core member services and become accredited for a three-year period. Core member services required for accreditation include: member communications, quality education and access to education, advocacy, elevation of public awareness, compliance with governance policies, engaging and recruiting members, and conducting finances and operations with transparency.
Repositioning: After a year of study and exploration by the AIA Nebraska Board of Directors, and leadership of AIA Omaha, AIA Lincoln and AIA Western Nebraska, a proposed new structure will be unveiled in accordance with AIA National repositioning. This reorganization helps us streamline, so that we may offer more services and benefits to our members while facilitating additional collaboration between our statewide network of AIA members.
This matter has been discussed and voted in support by each chapter's (Omaha, Lincoln and Western Nebraska) board of directors. The simplified structure is a decision that was made after input from leaders of Nebraska's local chapters, research from around the country on how other chapters are reorganizing and advice from our legal expert. The result of diverse ideas and challenging questions is a proposed organization that will be stronger at both the State and Local levels, providing a platform for growth that will allow us to lead the nation in providing new and exciting ways to serve our members and represent our profession.
Stay tuned for additional information to be made available in July. The next steps will include:
Q&A: Information through a variety of mediums will be made available over the next 3 months to inform you of the proposed reorganization changes.
Discussion and voting by the membership of the revised bylaws allowing the reorganization. To be held at the AIA Nebraska membership meeting in conjunction with the Annual Conference on Friday, September 30, 2016.
Discussion and voting of the reorganization by membership at each local chapter's respective annual meeting (November + December).
Filing of revised documentation to the Nebraska Secretary of State and the Internal Revenue Service.
Pending Approval: New structure effective January 1, 2017.
